The Robert Horrell Macmillan Centre

Set in spacious grounds, the Robert Horrell Macmillan Centre was opened in 1991.  The aim of which is to provide a safe, supporting and caring environment for both patients and carers.

The multi-professional team at the Centre provides a range of treatments, advice, activities and support structures for patients who are living with cancer or other progressive illness.

Services offered at the Day Centre include:

  • Patient's assessment and planning of a care package
  • Advice and support regarding symptom management
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Stress and anxiety management
  • Therapeutic massage and Aromatherapy
  • Lymphoedema management
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Nutritional support
  • Chaplaincy
  • Diversional and creative therapy
  • Supervised group work
  • Bathing facilities

The Day Centre is open every week Monday to Thursday, 8:00am - 4:30pm inclusive and Friday 8:00am - 1:00pm.

Transport can be arranged through the hospital volunteer drivers system, bringing patients to and from the unit.

Note:  There are also five community Macmillan Nurse Specialists and a Multiple Sclerosis Nurse Specialist based at the Centre.

Lymphoedema Service

The aim of the Lymphoedema Service provided by the Peterborough Hospitals NHS Trust is to provide information, advice support and treatment for people who have Lymphoedema/chronic oedema.

It is recognised that Lymphoedema can be a very distressing condition because of the physical problems it can cause, the possible restrictions on normal activities of daily living and the emotional trauma often associated when coping with a chronic condition.

The Lymphoedema Service will provide the following:

  • Assessment of condition, development of a management plan
  • Information/advice on skin care, exercise, daily activities that may influence oedema level

Specific treatments available:

  • Support/compression hosiery
  • Simple lymphatic drainage
  • Manaual lymphatic drainage
  • Multi-layer Lymphoedema bandaging

The Lymphoedema Service is open Monday to Thursday, 8:00am - 5:00pm inclusive and Friday 8:00am - 3:00pm, every alternate Fridays.
