General Surgery
The Department of General Surgery is primarily based at Peterborough District Hospital.
As well as General Surgical elective and emergency treatments, the department also consists of the sub-specialties of Vascular Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery and Breast Surgery.
In-patients are treated across four wards, for which a Matron is nominated to oversee all aspects of Clinical Governance.
The colorectal subspecialty also benefits from a Consultant Nurse and two Colorectal Nurse Specialists.
An Upper GI Nurse Specialist has recently been appointed.
Day Case rates across General Surgery are high, with procedures such as Laparoscopic Cholecystectomies regularly being carried out as a Day Case.
Outpatient General Surgical services are also of a high quality, with National access waiting time targets being met and clinic templates being regularly reviewed for the benefit of patient access.
